Bats in the Belfry

Lyricist: John Mullins

Vocalist: John Mullins

There's bats in the belfry,
Cornered cobwebs in despair.
Even though they can't see,
they may still care.

Spirits make their noises,
Moans and cries all night long.
The old man says his soul is
too far gone.

Outside the wind kept howling,
Screaming for final peace.
His old bones, they creek down the hallway
while he aches to be released.

Time makes no passage.
The ancient story is told,
If he could only grasp it
It would unfold.

But the mind makes it's own fun
when the body will not do.
The cobwebs they turn to ashes
Then they burn up in the flue.

There's bats in the belfry,
Night falls are as black as coal.
The devil takes his dowry,
And leaves her soul in peace
